Lampworked Beads are handmade beads created by
spinning hot glass onto a mandrel over a flame. Each bead is
therefore individually created. Each bead has been annealed to
prevent thermal shock.
Annealing is a process of slowly cooling glass
to relieve internal stresses after the bead was formed. Generally
the process is carried out by a kiln. If glass is not annealed,
it is likely to crack or shatter when subjected to a small
temperature change. This is called thermal shock.
