Who Was Daniel Swarovski?

Daniel Swarovski was the founder of the Swarovski company, a name long associated with precision-cut crystal, sparkling beads, pendants, rhinestones and decorative crystal components.

Daniel Swarovski

In 1895, in Wattens, Austria, Daniel Swarovski founded the company that would become internationally known for its crystal cutting and brilliant reflective finishes.

Born in Bohemia, Daniel Swarovski invented and patented a machine that enabled crystals to be cut with exceptional precision. To power his grinding machine with hydroelectric power, he moved to Wattens in Tyrol with his family, laying the foundation for his crystalline vision.

Over time, Swarovski crystals became popular with jewellery makers, fashion designers, costume makers and craft artists around the world. Their sparkle, consistency and wide range of colours made them a favourite choice for crystal beads, pendants, rhinestones and embellishments.

Many jewellery makers still recognise Swarovski crystal components for their precision-cut finish, brilliant sparkle and beautiful specialty effects.
