Essential Oils

Avoid Reactions to Oils By Pre-Testing

Before applying any essential oil to your bracelet, it's a good idea to test them on a small patch of skin first. This will help ensure that you don't have any adverse reactions or allergies to the particular oils you plan to use.

User a Carrier Oil

Essential oils are highly concentrated substances and should be diluted before direct contact with the skin. Mix a few drops of your chosen oil with a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil or coconut oil before applying it to your bracelet.

What You'll Need

It's time to start crafting! Your first step is to gather all the needed supplies. We have some recommendations on what materials you should use.

Your Bracelet Base

You can't make a bracelet without the base. There are a variety of options available, so it comes down to what you like. You can use leather, metal, or even elastic cord. Think about who you're making it for and what their personal style is.

Lava Beads

Lava beads are an excellent choice when making essential oils bracelets. These beads are more porous and absorb the oil you use.
We have a Lava Bead Kit available that contains different colours and sizes, allowing you to really customise your diffuser bracelet. Alternatively, you can buy Lava Beads in individual strands here.

Essential Oils

Don’t forget to choose the essential oils that you want to use on the bracelet. While there are no right or wrong essential oil scents, it’s a good idea to choose one that you’re drawn to. Remember, the more you like it, the more you’re likely to wear your bracelet regularly.  You can find our range of Essential Oils here.

Spacer Beads

This is completely optional. However, if you want to add some fun elements to your bracelet, you can use spacer beads in between your lava beads
You can choose a variety of materials and designs to make your bracelet truly unique.

Jewellery Pliers

Finally, you'll need a pair of jewellery pliers. This will help you make adjustments and manipulate the pieces. Our mini three-piece set is a great option to start with.

Step-by-Step Instructions: The Fun Part

Now that you've gathered up all your supplies, it's time for the fun part: actually making the bracelet. There are a few little tricks we'll recommend to get the most out of your bracelet, but keep in mind that some of these steps are optional.

Prepare the Beads

This is one of the steps that's optional. However, some people recommend sanding the beads before adding essential oils. Make sure you check the information available on the beads you use, since sanding them first may be harmful to some types of beads.

They say that the smooth surface helps with absorption when applying the essential oil.

Build Your Bracelet

It's now time to start adding beads to your bracelet base. Cut the base the length you want, and then have fun! Just make sure you create something that you'll love wearing.

Secure Your Beads and Trim the Base

Next, you'll want to secure the ends of whatever bracelet base you choose. This can be done with a knot or crimp bead closure if you go with beading wire. If you are using elastic cord, we recommend Stretch Magic which can be found here. Secure the knot with a dab of GS Hypo Cement - Perfect for Bead Stringing!

Once it's been secured, trim off any excess material.

Add Essential Oil

Next, take your chosen oil and add two to three drops across the entire bracelet. You can use the dropper we discussed or a cotton swab. You'll want to allow the beads time to absorb the oil before moving to the next step.

Storage of your Bracelet

When you're not wearing your bracelet, store it in an airtight container. This will help increase the longevity of the scent. You can also reapply oils as needed.

Tips and Tricks

That's the basics of making essential oils bracelets. However, we do have some additional tips and tricks to get the most out of your new jewellery.

Choose the Right Materials

When making an essential oil bracelet, it's important to select materials that are safe and durable. Opt for beads made from natural stones or wood, as these can absorb and hold onto the scent of your chosen essential oils. Additionally, make sure to use a high-quality elastic cord or stretchy string that won't easily break.

Don't Overdo It

Remember that less is more when it comes to applying essential oils to your bracelet. The Essential Oils we provide are Pure Essential Oils created by Young Living. A single drop or two should be sufficient for infusing your jewellery with fragrance throughout the day.

Rotate Scents Regularly

To prevent overpowering scents and keep things fresh, consider changing up the essential oils you apply on your bracelets regularly. This allows you to enjoy different aromas depending on your mood or needs at any given time.

Clean Your Bracelet Correctly

Over time, dirt and residue can accumulate on your bracelet. This may affect its appearance and aroma absorption capabilities. Cleanse it gently using mild soap and water while avoiding soaking in liquids for extended periods of time.

Think Outside the Box with Some Essential Oil Bracelet Variations

There are endless possibilities when it comes to creating your own essential oil bracelet. You can experiment with different materials, colours, and styles to match your personal preferences and mood. Here are some exciting variations you can try out:

Don't Get Stuck in a Rut with Lava Beads

Instead of using traditional lava beads, consider using gemstone beads or wooden beads for a unique touch. Each type of bead carries its own energy and properties, allowing you to create a bracelet that not only smells amazing but also provides additional benefits.

Add a Little Charm

Add an extra element of charm by incorporating small metal charms into your design. Choose symbols that hold special meaning to you, or simply opt for cute designs like hearts or stars.

Make Your Bracelet Adjustable

If you prefer versatility, consider making an adjustable essential oil bracelet using sliding knots instead of a clasp. This way, you can easily adjust the size of the bracelet according to your wrist size and wear it comfortably all day long.

To create a sliding knot:

  • Lay the cord down and cross the ends over so there is a large loop at the bottom
  • Loop right right end over, under, and around the main part of the cord
  • Feed the end through the loop, creating an overhand knot
  • Pull the knot firmly, but leave enough room so the cord can still easily slide through
  • Loop the left end over, under, and around the main part of the cord
  • Feed the end through the loop, creating an overhand knot
  • Pull the knot firmly, but leave enough room so the cord can still easily slide through
  • Make a knot at each end of the cord to help with easy adjustments

Have Fun with Colours

Play around with colour combinations! Choose beads in complementary tones or go for an ombre effect by selecting shades from the same colour family.
